Class-ridden society in Britain I learned about the class structure of Britain these two days from a book named 50 TOPICS ON BRITISH SOCIETY AND CULTURE which i borrowed from the school library.I’m quite impressed with it. The particularly complex and confusing class system is simply made up of the upper, middle and lower class. The wealthy families who run the City of London are at the core of the British class and they pass on wealth from generation to generation and enjoy a dominant position in society, which marks it as different from the American or Chinese structure. The middle class can be devided into even smaller segments. Some people who are dependent on the tight class structure of the British Empire for his position, but poorer than many people in supposedly lower classes may refer to his own family as “lower-upper-middle class”.The term “upper middle-class”might be used to describe doctores and lawyers who have relatively high incomes and high-status proffessions. There is another word---“lower middle-class” for thoes whose job is unskilled office work or skilled well-paid manual work.Sometimes the word “middle class”has connotations of hypocrisy and pretentiousness in Britain when they consider others as being so middle class. It means they are social climbing and thinking that they are better than others then they aren’t really.
Unfortunately,Lower-class is related to those whose background is working class.I have been educated that one is proud to be a working class and we should learn from them to creat our world using our own hands.Although working class is less important nowadays than in old times in China,we don’t look down on them.Similarly,It’s nothing to be a descendant of royal family, let’s say,in Qing Dynasty. You can’t make a living remaining the title of “ai xin jue luo”. We are more concered with “having money” or “not having money”.However,in Britain, with an inherit title such as baronets, barons and duck, the upper-class does have a lot of privilege. They most likely have a seat in the House of Lords and vote as individuals for serving their own interests, which is,in my view, the reason why such a class-ridden society lasts for long, that is,the upper class granted series of privileges is who controlls the running of Britain.
